GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has increased its price of its asthma inhaler Ventolin by 20 per cent, after the US company’s price for the drug in August was slashed by up to 20 per cent. Asthalis’ asthma inhaler Advair was also reduced by 20 per cent, following the company’s price increase of about 15 per cent.
Ventolin is the brand name for a medicine used to treat asthma. In April this year, it was the second drug to be reduced by 20 per cent. It is used to treat bronchospasm in people with asthma. Advair is available as a generic equivalent to Advair Diskus and Aspura.
In a statement, Asthalis said: “The price of Advair is slashed from £10.55 for the generic Advair brand to £11.95 for the generic Advair inhaler.”
GSK said it is cutting the price of Advair by 20 per cent to £11.95 from £11.95 in August to protect its stock from competition.
The price of Advair increased by 20 per cent from £11.95 to £12.95 and has been reduced to £11.95 by October 2014 from £13.95.
